Service Description

In this two-day Workshop you will learn everything you need to know to take your first steps in the art of leather crafting In the theoretical part of the program, experienced designers & tanners will present everything you need to know about leather qualities, various dyes, surface treatment methods and finishes such as polishing, waterproofing, chocolate dyes, etc. We will also present ways to protect, repair and care for leather goods. In detail, the Theoretical Part Includes: - Introduction to leather and leather crafting materials by Despina Malli: Types of leather used in leather crafting, their origin and their factory processing. Analysis of qualitative and macroscopic characteristics so that we are able to recognize them and choose the appropriate leather depending on the construction. Introduction to other leatherworking materials such as the various types of leather dyes, dyes for skor, glues and solvents, polishes, threads, etc. - Presentation/demonstration of Finishing Techniques by Dimitris Pantsios from Chemicron, official Stahl Representative: Impregnation and plastic dyes, skor dyes and other materials such as polishing creams, waterproofers, etc. Application demonstration - Presentation/demonstration of Leather Goods Maintenance & Repair Techniques by Dimitris Pantsios Laboratory part: Leather surface treatment: One of the most important creative tools in the hands of a designer is the autonomy to give his own design identity directly to the material he uses to make an accessory. In this chapter we will explore leather dyes and patinas, creating various textures with leather surface processing techniques (engraving, stamping, embossing, pleats, gathers, embossing, etc.) as well as combination techniques. Small leather construction with hand tools: In this section we will learn to handle leather (marking, cutting, finishing) and use hand tools to make small leather constructions (e.g. card holder, glasses case, etc.) with a ready-made pattern. Speakers: - Despina Malli, founding member of Askardamykti, leather goods designer and head of training for the Leather Bag & Accessories department - Dimitris Pantsios, Tannery Technician specializing in dyes & finishes from Chemicron, official Stahl Representative Duration 8 hours - 2 four-hour classes Weekend 11:00-15:00
