Constructions with Cement

A self-contained seminar with cement as the main bonding material with the aim of constructing useful and decorative objects of industrial design

What does the Workshop include?

In this workshop, cement will be our experimentation material with the aim of constructing decorative or useful objects.

Theoretical part:

In the theoretical part of the course, we will present the qualities of cement and their basic characteristics. Other raw materials required in the construction of objects with cement such as aggregates, reinforcement, pigments, and materials for the construction of molds.

We will learn the logic of mix design depending on the scale of the project, the required reinforcement, as well as final surface treatment techniques.

Laboratory part:

In the laboratory part, we will become familiar with the design and construction of prototype molds, the process of preparing the mixture and the casting process, as well as the final processing of the objects after their initial hardening.

Through a series of constructions, we will experiment with the construction of objects and casting in various types of molds, from ready-made silicone molds, molds from household objects. At the same time, we will try different techniques for processing and decorating the final surface such as creating textures, revealing aggregates with a sander, waterproofing, painting, etc.
